Feline urethral obstruction is a potentially deadly
disease in male cats and prevents urine from leaving the bladder. Cats affected
by a urethral obstruction are called blocked cats. Mucus, urine debris,
inflammatory cells, or tiny bladder stones can clog the urethra.
Common signs of urinary obstruction in cats include:
· Straining to
go to the bathroom
· Excessive
vocalization
· Pain when the
abdomen is touched
As the condition worsens, cats may exhibit stomach pain
and scream when handled or attempting to pee. A large number of cats will
vomit. Some cats move strangely, which leads some owners to assume they are
having difficulty walking or are lame. When you try to touch your typically
gentle cat, it may swat or bite you. If
your pet urinates several times and only produces few drops of pee or none at
all, most likely it has a total or partial obstruction. Many owners mistake
constipation for straining in the litter box.
Consult your animal hospital Plano TX urgently if you believe your cat is
blocked.
