Similar to humans, parakeets can get affected by sudden loud noises in their environment. Some of these birds are accustomed to a noisy environment, while a few of them are extremely sensitive to noise. Just listening to the doorbell sound can stress them out.
Whenever parakeets are exposed to constant noise, they get stressed or exhibit negative behaviors. This also happens when they react to abrupt, unexpected, and loud sounds. Several parakeets lose it when they hear the vacuum turn on, while they act fine when they listen to music at a normal volume. It may need some trial and error practice to know the types of noise that affect your feathered companion negatively.
Most of these parakeets display various behaviors whenever they’re stressed from a noisy environment. The behaviors include sitting at the bottom of the cage instead of perching, refusing to eat, plucking their feathers, chatting nonstop, or being completely quiet. When you observe these behaviors, it’s time to lower down the noise and give them time to calm down and check if their demeanor improves.
