Important Reasons Why Your Pets Need A Good Dental Regimen

Dental problems are common among pet cats and dogs.  Proper dental hygiene and frequent visits to the vet clinic prevent these problems. There most common dental condition is periodontal disease.  It causes pain and discomfort and affects the appetite and behavior of pets. Also, the bacteria in the plaque and tartar can enter the bloodstream, especially if your dog has irritated gums. This bacteria makes its way through the bloodstream and reaches the heart, kidneys, liver, and even sometimes the brain that can cause serious complications. Dental care is an important part of routine pet care.  Daily brushing is one of the best ways to prevent dental problems. Start as early as possible to your pets to accustom them to the brushing process. Pets should learn how to tolerate tooth brushing and mouth examination. Use toothpaste and toothbrush that is made especially for pets. Human toothpaste is not advisable because it may contain toxic ingredients.

Your pet will benefit from regular dental checks and professional cleaning at your animal care hospital Marion IA area.

Where your cat wants to relax

Your cat shares your living space with you and this means that she will be looking for a place to rest and relax in this space. Where is she likely to be the most comfortable?

Your cat will need to nap on a regular basis and this means that she will likely try to find a place she can rest again and again. Your little fur ball needs to be able to stretch out and be comfortably supported so she won’t be tossing and turning. She also needs to be able to rest without interruption, so she is likely to select a spot off the beaten path in your home. She may seek out new and different places until she finds an area she likes, and then she will likely stick to this unless she finds an area that is even more appealing. For additional information, please contact your local pet clinic Marion, IA.

My Dog Isn’t Eating

If your dog skips a meal, don’t panic. Keep an eye on him and see if he shows any signs of an illness. For instance, is he lethargic? Does he want to go out for walks? Is his stool and urine normal? Is he shaking, hunching over like he’s in pain, have a hunched back which also signals pain, vomiting, drooling, etc.? If he has any of those symptoms call your vet to schedule an exam right away. If your dog doesn’t appear to be acting any different than usual then wait him out and see if he will eat his next meal. Sometimes dogs will eat a lot one day and skip a meal the next day. If your dog gets a lot of treats in between meals then he may not be hungry. Offer your dog his meal at a later time and see if that makes a difference. Consult with your Marion, IA veterinary clinic as well.
