FeLV stands for
the Feline Leukemia Virus. This is a virus that is highly contagious in cats,
but cannot be passed to other animals including dogs. People are also not at
risk of FeLV. Cats, however, can spread FeLV via bodily fluids, blood, urine or
feces, etc. FeLV is the second leading cause of death in felines. A vaccine to
help prevent or fight off the disease is available; however, it is not 100%
guaranteed to prevent FeLV. The best way to protect your cat is to have her
tested for the virus yearly and to have her avoid contact with other cats that
are outside of your home. Cats living outdoors are at a higher risk for getting
FeLV due to their contact with other cats outdoors. Cats living indoors could
still be at risk if a FeLV positive cat unknowingly or purposefully enters the
home. Learn

Do Dogs like Boats?
Some dogs do not want anything to do with
the water including boats. Other dogs take to the water like they take to land.
They love swimming and being on the water which often includes extensive time
spent on the boat. Whether a house boat or a yacht, some dogs were just born
for the boat life. For instance, the Chesapeake Bay Retriever is one of the top
canine breeds for outdoor activities especially boating. This is a breed you
should check out if you’re looking for a canine boating companion. Dogs that
may love the water still need time to warm up to it. Take your dog onto your
boat when you’re not going anywhere. Let him smell and look around. Once he’s
comfortable start the boat up and go out a little bit more each time you’re
out. For
more details, call your veterinarian Seminole, FL.
