Did you know that snakes may attack small and large animals if they
believe that animal is a threat? This includes animals like alpacas. If
you think your alpaca has been bitten by a snake, call your vet
immediately. Snake bites can be serious and even life threatening if not
discovered and treated right away. Symptoms of a snake bite could
include the alpaca lying flat, convulsing or seizing, arching his neck
and back, legs shaking, labored breathing, and dilated pupils. It’s been
known for alpacas to be fine one minute and then flat out on the ground
the next. Whether the cause of these actions is a snake bute or not you
need immediate vet treatment. Some studies suggest that applying a home
remedy of vitamin C to the bite can help slow the venom from spreading.
