Can Dogs Like the Irish Setter have Chocolate?

Whether you own an Irish Setter or another type of canine, you should never give him chocolate. Also be careful not to leave chocolate in a place where your dog can get to it. If your Irish Setter does eat chocolate, call your vet. Symptoms of chocolate poisoning may include extreme thirst, diarrhea, unusual amounts of energy, pacing, shaking, or seizures. Do not wait for symptoms to appear as they may take six to twelve hours to develop. Be prepared to tell your vet your Irish Setter’s weight, and the amount of chocolate he may have eaten. Small amounts of chocolate may not affect a Pomeranian the way it would an Irish Setter. In less extreme cases, your vet may tell you to give your dog one tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide for every twenty pounds he weighs. This will make your dog vomit. How Much Food Should You Feed Your Dog

 Puppy Feeding Guidelines

Feeding your dog the right kind of food with the right amount is essential to ensure that your pet stays healthy and happy. Most commercially available pet foods come with feeding instructions to guide pet owners. However, how much food you should feed your pet should also consider several factors, such as your pet’s life stage, health condition, lifestyle, and body weight. It is best to record your pet’s weight and match it against your dog’s ideal weight. This way, you will be able to see if you need to make food serving adjustments. If your pet is gaining excess weight, decrease its food intake by 20% to 30%. Lessening the amount of food your pet receives is necessary, especially if your pet is inactive during the day. If your pet is losing weight, increase its food intake by 10% to 20%. Always consult your animal hospital Davie FL if you have concerns about your pet’s diet and nutrition.

Dogs and Pool Water

If you have a pool or spend time with your dog around a pool then chances are you’ve seen your pup sneak a quick sip of pool water. Should this be discouraged? Yes, definitely. Is a small sip harmful? Probably not, but you should talk with your vet anyway. In many cases the amount of chlorine in a well maintained swimming pool is fairly low. However, if you’re not the one maintaining the pool do not assume the levels are low. Chlorinated water in general is not the best choice for animal or human. You should try and discourage your dog from drinking the pool water. If he does swallow a lot pool water (i.e while swimming), notify your vet. When your dog is outside of the pool, make sure plenty of fresh water is available in a doggy bowl. Click here for more tips or call your vets Davie, FL.
