Some Unique Rabbit Behaviors

Rabbits have a variety of behaviors they use to communicate with their owners and other rabbits.

One such behavior is purring or teeth grinding, which can indicate enjoyment when being petted, but can also signify discomfort or pain.

If a rabbit is grinding its teeth while relaxed and stretched out, it is likely content, but if it is hunched and tense, not interested in moving or eating, or showing aggression, it may be in pain.

Another behavior that rabbits may engage in when displeased is kicking "dirt" up by kicking their feet as they hop away. This behavior is similar to what rabbits would do in the wild to kick dirt into the face of another animal. This behavior may be seen after a nail trimming session, for example.

A sudden change in your pet’s behavior should warrant a call to your animal hospital Virginia Beach, VA.

Cats Like the American Bobtail and Arthritis

Does your older American Bobtail or other feline appear to be having trouble moving around? If so, please be sure to call your vet to schedule a checkup. Signs of mobility issues may include stiffness or swelling of the joints, lethargy, decreased flexibility, discomfort when petting them, decreased activity, messing outside the litter box because they cannot get in and out, and even hesitancy to jump or climb things. If your bobtail has any of these symptoms call your vet to schedule an exam. Your cat may have arthritis or he may be suffering from another condition. Your vet may prescribe medication for your cat. In addition to your vet’s instructions, you can also help your cat be more comfortable by giving him a softer blanket or cat bed, gently massaging him when he’s sleeping, and making sure he has easy access to food, water and his litter box. The Burmese Cat

Did you know that some cats are known to have dog like characteristics? One such cat is the Burmese. In fact, if you’re looking for a cat that can be taught to retrieve and to enjoy riding in cars then the Burmese is probably one of the best types of felines for you. These cats tend to take on various qualities of our canine friends including their desire to be a constant and playful companion. This particular cat comes in four colors including sable, champagne, blue and platinum. The Burmese have large eyes and a short haired coat that some compare to the feel of velvet. They are playful creatures that love people and tend to get along with children and most other pets. They require routine exercise as well as and consistent training. Teaching others to interact with your hamster

You have a hamster in your life who needs you to be there with her in order to make the most of each and every day. How can you help others enjoy some time with her too?

Your pet needs you to be aware of the fact that a lot of people have never interacted with a pet like yours and even those that have don’t know your specific furry friend. Take the time to explain her preferences and boundaries to those that want to get to know her and then be sure to offer plenty of guidance. Help your hamster get used to this type of interaction by gradually introducing it to her so she doesn’t feel overwhelmed all at once. Be sure to choose a time of day that she will be receptive to attention as well so she can feel at ease during the process. Your local veterinarian Virginia Beach, VA can offer additional guidance.
