Grooming Needs Of Pointer Dogs

Most dog owners know that pointer dogs are well behaved, sport a pointing stand, are medium built, and are good hunters. The hair coat of a pointer dog may have a solid color or with a pattern.

Male pointer dogs have 28 inches of shoulder length and may weigh 75 pounds. Meanwhile, females only measure 23 inches and weigh 45 pounds. In general, female pointer dogs are smaller than males.

The grooming needs of a pointer dog vary. The wirehaired and long-haired variety needs more grooming sessions than the short-haired variety. Pet owners need to clean inside the dog’s ears. Clean the ears to ensure that it has no infection or wound. You can ask your vet for the appropriate cleaning solution.

You could brush your dog’s hair coat, regardless of the length. Do this to remove any dirt from forming in the hair coat.

Finally, it is necessary to trim the nails. Doing so will prevent your dog from scratching surfaces around the house. But if your dog is out and about, there might not be any need to trim the nails regularly.

Any skin and/or hair coat issue exhibited by your pet should warrant an appointment with your vet clinic Raleigh, NC.

Possible Signs of Gingivitis in Cats Like the Manx

 Manx Cat Breed Information

Did you know that gingivitis is a common dental or gum disease found in various breeds of cats including the Manx?In fact, this type of gum disease can affect any breed of feline no matter if it’s a male or female. In general, gingivitis is a gum disease that can cause inflammation and irritation to the gums. A good indication that your Manx cat may have gingivitis is if she has bad breath. Bad breath does not always mean dental trouble, but you should check with your vet. Research shows that more than 80 percent of pets three years and older develop some form of gingivitis. Common signs of gingivitis include red or swollen gums. The inflammation is especially present on the side of the gums facing the inner cheeks. If your cat appears to have a lot of plaque build-up on the surface of the teeth this could also indicate gingivitis. Consult with your pet clinic Raleigh NC for additional information.

Different Color Coats of the Australian Shepherd

 Australian Shepherd Colors and Markings

In the canine world, the Australian Shepherd is one of the most recognized breeds. He’s often called the “Aussie” or “Ghost Eye Dog,” and is know for having quite the coat color pattern and eye color pattern. In general, most Aussies are of the merle color pattern, which consists of combinations of light and dark colors. Blue merle and red merle are the most common of the color patterns. Aussies; however, can come in just about any color. At one point, breeders tried for merle Aussies only. The soon discovered, though, that puppies with two merle parents had a 1 in 4 chance of being born deaf or blind. Today, all color patterns are accepted. In addition to the coat, the Aussie’s eyes can range in color. Brown, blue and amber are most common. Some eye colors can be split or even swirl. Some Aussies even have two different color eyes. Call your vets Raleigh, NC for more details on this breed.

Protecting Your Pet’s Paws

Paws for dogs are as important as hands or feet are for people. If a dog´s paws suffer from any injury it will be harder for the dog to enjoy activities like running, going for a walk, or playing in the backyard.

A dog’s paws may appear tough but they can actually be injured.  Some common causes of paw problems in dogs include walking on surfaces that are too hot or too cold, running or laying on surfaces that are rough or strewn with rocks. During summer, concrete could turn very hot.

If a dog walks through these hot surfaces for a considerable length of time, blisters or sores could form on the paw pads. On the other hand, walking on icy or very cold surfaces during winter could lead to chapped pads or even an infection. In these cases, doggie booties are a great option to prevent your dog from these extreme conditions.

Cutting regularly the hair between the dog's paw pads also prevents the dog from getting any injury. The excess hair could turn into painful mats or attract thorns.

If your dog’s paws have been injured, it is a good idea to call your vet Raleigh NC.
