Why do Small Dogs Live Longer?

Have you noticed that smaller dogs tend to live longer than larger dogs? When calculating a dog’s age in people years you must the dog’s age by 7 for large dogs and multiple the dog’s age by 5 for small dogs. This will tell you the real age in people years. So what does that matter? You may notice that a small dog is only multiplied by 5. This is because small dogs tend to live longer than larger dogs. Why? Some research suggests that larger dogs start to age at an earlier point in life. There are some veterinarians that have noted a larger dog’s cell growth seems to be much more accelerated than a small dog’s. In addition, a larger dog becomes sick or develops a disease, he is much more likely to die at an earlier age because of the rapid growth of the illness.
