Can A Blue Tongue Skink Make A Great Pet?

Skinks comprise around a thousand separate species. They’re an entire family of different lizard types and are not considered as a single species. Almost all skinks exclusively live in the wild, however, some of them are captive to breed and kept as a pet. The most domesticated skinks are the ones with blue tongues. These are referred to as “blueys” in Australia and New Guinea where they’re native.

The color of the tongue of these lizards is truly bright blue which was believed to evolve as a defense mechanism to their predators. The noticeable and unique tongues of these lizards are admired and desired by most pet owners. Luckily, they are also so easy to handle and tame out of all other species of skinks. They are frequently suggested as budding pets for new herpetologists because they’re docile in nature.
