What Are Signs of an Unhealthy Kitten?

When your kitten is sick, it can be difficult to tell whether they're actually sick or just being her independent, eccentric self.

If you're not sure, here are some signs your kitten may be unhealthy:

  • They seem lethargic and have a decreased appetite.

  • They're not responding normally to things that would normally cause them to react. For example, if you try to pet them with a toy and they don't react normally (i.e., they don't chase it).

  • They have an unusual odour coming from their body or their litter box. This could be indicative of a urinary tract infection or other illness.

  • Their fur isn't as fluffy as usual, and may even look oily or greasy in places where it's normally dryer and fluffier (like the stomach area).

  • The fur may look dull and unkempt, which could be a sign that they're not getting enough water.

  • Their behaviour is different than usual. They may be hiding more often or acting more aggressively toward you.

If you have more questions or wish to schedule your kitten for a checkup, please don't hesitate to call us, your local animal hospital in Lexington, KY today!

Chartreux Cat Personality

Active yet gentle, quiet but expressive, and playful but docile – these are the notable traits of Chartreux felines.

If you want to own a pet cat that enjoys an active lifestyle but does not break things at home, consider this breed. These cats know how to respect objects and even people or your visitors at home. They are calm and great observers, waiting for how they should react or respond to different situations.

In addition, these felines are quiet and do not make too many meows or purrs. If they need to tell you something, they will look at you and signal. Another important thing about these cats is they enjoy playing and tinkering with toys. You can leave them alone or with other household pets for quite some time. They also behave well during travels as long as you provide for the cats' needs.

So long as you respect the Chartreux cats’ needs, know that you will have furry friends in them.

Take your pet to a nearest veterinary hospital Lexington, KY for regular health and dental checks.

Behaviors of Fat-Tailed Gerbils

animal hospital Lexington, KY

In their natural habitats, a fat-tailed gerbil, or most of them, can be quite docile.  And when kept as animal companions, escape is not something that they will regularly attempt and only bite if frightened.  With that said, should you keep more than one of these rodents, aggression will likely develop among them, and might even try eating each other.  Should you be keeping a pregnant female and she gives birth, keep a close watch as they are known to eat their young.

This gerbil species is nocturnal.  Wild fat-tailed gerbils have the most activity around sunset and could have some activity during the daytime and even at night.  As pets, they are usually inactive for long periods.  They might have some sort of activity for a short while, then sleep, then have another short period of activity. These gerbils are rather social among humans, however, they do not like living with others of their kind.
