The American Staffordshire Terrier

Did you know that the American Staffordshire Terrier did not originate in Staffordshire England? This particular breed did originate in England, but it began as a bulldog type breed. The Staffordshire Terrier came about when the bulldog and the terrier were bred. The original breed name was the Pit Bull Terrier that eventually became known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier of England. It wasn’t until the 1850s that the breed was brought over to the U.S. and given the name American Pit Bull Terrier. Over time, there were changes made in the breed itself and it became known as the American Staffordshire Terrier in 1969. Although the breed shares a lineage with the pit bull, the Staffordshire Terrier became a gentler breed and is now considered to be a family dog breed. Your veterinarians Ashburn, VA can tell you that the average pup can weigh between 40 and 60 pounds and reach 17 to 19 inches in height.

Curly American Curl Ears

The American Curl is known best for its small shaped head and rounded out hears. But, did you know that the Curl is actually born with straight ears? The ears don’t take on their curvy shape until the cat is about three to five days old. Even at this point the ears stay in a tight rounded shape and do not completely curl out and take permanent shape until 16 weeks. In addition, the degree of the curl in the ear can vary. Breeders are very particular when it comes to the degree of the curl in the ear and the overall shape of the ear. In fact, the American Curl’s ear position and shape can affect whether the cat will be good enough to show or passed along to become a family pet. These cats are extremely loyal and affectionate. They are great with pets and children. For more information, talk with your veterinarian Leesburg, VA.

Cleaning your guinea pig’s cage

Your guinea pig is a big part of your life, and you know how much he depends on you. In order for your pet to be comfortable in her enclosure, it should be clean. How can you maintain it for her?

Your guinea pig needs you to take the tome to spot clean her enclosure on a daily basis. This will mean cleaning up soiled bedding, removing old food, and freshening up both her hay and her water. Every so often you will need to clean things out completely and throw away anything that can’t be sanitized. Keeping your koi healthy

Caring for koi fish is a big task, and you want to make sure you are able to meet their needs in a way that will keep them healthy. What should you consider when doing so?

Koi need space to move about freely, so it’s important that you offer this to them. Think about how many you will be caring for when determining the appropriate size. They also need to be swimming around in water of good quality, which will need to be maintained to help prevent disease and other issues from occurring. Be sure to feed your fish high-quality food, as this will give their bodies the nutrients they need to stay fit and strong. You will need to be aware of their behavioral patterns as well, so you will be able to take note of changes and be able to address them accordingly. What to look for when purchasing a litter box

You will soon be bringing a feline friend into your life, and you know that she will need a litter box within your home. What should you look for when purchasing one?

It’s important that you choose a litter box that your pet will be comfortable in, otherwise, she may not use it. Think about your pet’s size and general preferences when looking at your options. There are likely some things that will work better than others in your household, like adding a hood to a litter box to keep other pets from snooping around this area. You should also consider the litter that can be used in different boxes, as this could significantly impact your decision. Many cats will prefer a certain type of litter over others. Common Mistakes Most Cat Owners Make

Even veteran cat owners still make mistakes. Sharing your life and home with a pet is a learning process and you should try to make an effort to learn as much as you can about your pet’s needs and how to meet them appropriately. Here are some common mistakes cat owners make that you should be aware of:

Physical punishment

Physical punishment has no place in responsible pet ownership. It has been shown that pets learn more easily when there is positive reinforcement rather than punishment.

Address their cat’s health problems on their own

Veterinary bills can be expensive, thus this is one of the important factors that potential pet owners must carefully consider. Regardless of whether it may be budgetary constraints or plain complacency, doing so can put your cat’s health and life in jeopardy. Examinations conducted by your Los Gatos, CA veterinarian are important in detecting diseases and other issues earlier so it can be addressed appropriately the soonest possible time before complications can set in.
