Getting Your Deaf Dog’s Attention

 

With most pet dogs, just calling them by their names could make them pay attention to you.  But if your dog is deaf, getting him to look at you could be difficult.  Below are some things that you could try to get your deaf pet dog’s attention:

Try to stamp on the ground to create vibrations.  These could be enough so that your dog turns to look at you.

There are those who have deaf dogs that use flashlights to get their pets to look at them.  You can do this if you train your pet to look at you whenever you turn a flashlight off and on.  Do this until your dog goes to look for the source of the light.  When your pet does this, offer him a treat.  Doing so lets your pet know that you want him to keep this behavior.

Vibrating electronic collars are not the same as shock collars that are used for training.  Pressing the button on the supplied remote makes the collar vibrate.  Continue pressing the vibrate button until your dog looks your way, then offer him a treat when he does.  This way, you train him to look at you whenever his collar vibrates.
