Maintaining The Peace In Multi-Cat Households

After the new cat and your resident cats become familiar with each other and start interacting, it doesn’t always mean that there won’t be any displays of aggression especially when establishing social hierarchy or there is a lack of resources. Here are some tips to maintain a peaceful environment in your multi-cat home:

Provide enough resources for all your cats, including the number of litter boxes (total cats plus one), scratching posts, vertical spaces, napping options, etc. Cats can be territorial and they don’t savor the idea of having to share everything and this can lead to competition and frequent fights.

Avoid having a community food bowl. Bully or dominant cats tend to consume more food, leaving the more submissive cat with little food or none at all. Each cat should have his own food bowl and should be fed separately.

Your pets will benefit from regular wellness checks at a best animal hospital Sarasota, FL.
