How To Know If Your Hedgehog is Ill


Owning a hedgehog can be tricky, especially when checking for their health and well-being. As they’re quite small, it can be difficult to determine whether they’re ill or not. Their quill does not make it easier as well. If it’s your first time owning a hedgehog there are tell-tale symptoms that you can spot for so you can seek immediate veterinary attention. Be observant in the way your hedgehog behaves. Sudden unexplainable changes are cues that something is wrong. Being active creatures, you’ll know that something is bothering them when they’re not moving as much as they usually do. 

Other underlying illnesses may also be spotted through changes in your hedgehog’s eating and drinking habits. Sudden changes in his appetite should signal to you that something is wrong. Make sure that feel your hedgehog’s body once in a while, bumps and lumps in his body may indicate some underlying health issue. This along with skin flaking, losing of his quills, discharges in eyes and nose are symptoms you should look out for.
