Dogs and Electrolytes

Did you know that electrolytes are the positive or negative charged ions that circulate in your dog’s blood and other bodily fluids? There are different and important electrolyte types that your pet needs. Different illnesses can cause the levels of these particular electrolytes to drop or rise. If you’re not sure if your pet needs electrolytes, here are a few signs to look for: A change in breathing, a change in heart rate, muscle weakness, anxiety, depression, and sometimes lethargy. If your dog has any of these symptoms, contact your vet right away. Your vet will most likely want to see your dog immediately to check for several things including electrolyte balances. If the balances are off then your dog may need to be given fluids to replace lost electrolytes. Electrolytes can be lost through long periods of vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, kidney disease and other illnesses.Call your veterinarian Huntersville NC to learn more.
