Respiratory Irritants And Other Reasons For Sneezing In Hamsters

Allergens in the immediate environment are important triggers of allergies in hamsters. Irritation of the upper respiratory tract caused by strong scents can trigger bouts of sneezing. Some common respiratory irritants include strong perfumes, scented candles, room sprays, pine and cedar shavings, electric diffusers, and essential oils. Cleaning agents can also be irritating to the sensitive respiratory tract of hamsters. If you are using any of these potential respiratory irritants in your home, it is a good idea to move your pet’s enclosure to a part of the house where fumes are not present.  If you are using pine or wood shavings for your pet’s bedding, try switching the bedding material to recycled paper or towels.

Other possible reasons for sneezing in hamsters are tumors in the nose or head. It could also be caused by serious medical issues that should be seen by a professional veterinarian Tampa, FL.

Demodectic Mange In Dogs

Demodectic mange or demodicosis is caused by Demodex mites. These microscopic mites are normal inhabitants of the skin of dogs. Puppies usually get the mites during the first few days after birth. When a dog’s immune system is working well, the mite population remains checked and controlled. However, if there are certain conditions that upset the body’s natural equilibrium, the dog’s immune system may be affected, giving the mites an upper hand. What follows is the proliferation of mites and serious skin disease.

Demodectic mange is not contagious. However, there are some instances when the mites could spread from an infected dog to the next. But the classical route of transfer is from the mother to her newborn pups. Exposure to the mites during the first few days of life causes a dog to develop enough immunity to the infection.

The mites live inside the dog’s hair follicles which make it difficult for miticides to reach and kill them. There are 3 forms of demodicosis—localized, generalized, and demodectic pododermatitis.
Any signs of skin disease should warrant an appointment with your animal hospital Pasadena, MD.

What To Do If Your Pet Rabbit Has Been Exposed To Frontline

Frontline contains an active ingredient to which rabbits are extremely sensitive to. Thus in the event that your pet rabbit has been exposed to frontline, accidental or intentional, steps should be taken to remove the product from your pet’s body as quickly as possible. Rabbits can exhibit mild to serious symptoms when exposed to Frontline. Some even develop seizures and die. When rabbits groom themselves, they can lick off the product which can lead to more serious implications. The first step is to get rid of the product by bathing your pet rabbit in warm water and using a mild puppy or kitten shampoo. Be sure to apply the product thoroughly before rinsing it off the rabbit. Dry your pet using a towel and place the animal under warm light or incubator to dry. Rabbits can easily get very cold and develop hypothermia which can be fatal. Thus warming your pet after a bath is very important. Do keep a close eye on your pet for the next few hours and days following the exposure to Frontline. If your pet rabbit is showing any signs of adverse reactions or toxicity, you should get the animal to the nearest animal clinic Anderson, IN ASAP for immediate treatment and supportive care.
