Help Your Obese Cat Shed Off Weight

Obesity in cats is a serious health matter, that is why owners should be alarmed and remedy this condition as soon as it is detected. Everyone in the family must pitch in to help your pet cat in shedding off the excess weight. Consider monitoring your pet’s diet – what type of food is she eating? How much is she eating? How frequently does she eat? A great way to track your pet cat’s weight loss progress is to make a weekly log of her weight – this way you can readjust your efforts for better results. While everyone should have time to interact and help your pet move and be active, it’s advised that only one person should be tasked to feed the cat. However, if this is not feasible, make sure that anyone who will be feeding your pet knows when and how much cat food should be given. Be sure to consult with your vet clinic Marietta GA before making any changes to your pet’s diet.

Do Snakes Blink?

Have you ever wondered if snakes blink? Perhaps you own a snake and you’ve spent time staring at him trying to see if they blink. Hopefully you didn’t stare too long because snakes do not generally blink. If you’re trying to catch him blink you could be watching for a very long time. Snakes don’t typically blink nor do they close their eyes. In fact, snakes don’t even have eyelids. But, if there are no eyelids, how do they protect their eyes from debris and scratches, etc.? They do so with a protective film that is covering the eye. The film is invisible to the human eye unless the snake is molting or shedding then you may catch a glimpse of it. The layer protects the eyes instead of eyelids. This has been the source for many tall tales that snakes can hypnotize with their eyes. But the truth is they just don’t blink. Dogs and Dry Skin

Have you noticed your dog excessively scratching at his skin? If so, take a closer look at the areas where he is scratching to see if there is a type of bite (i.e. fleas or ticks), if there is a rash, or if there is something going on with the skin. Dogs can be prone to dry skin. Signs may include flaky skin, visibly dry skin and irritated or red skin. Give your vet a call to schedule a checkup if you see this. Your vet will need find out if the irritation is a skin allergy of if it’s just dry skin in general. Dry skin can sometimes be caused by allergens in the air or from food allergies. In this case, treating the skin is only one step. The cause will also need to be treated including a change in dog food or possibly allergy medication depending on the severity of the allergies. Follow treatment instructions from your vet Monticello, NY. Read more here.

Keeping your dog in your backyard

Your dog loves to spend time outside and you are eager to enjoy some time with her whenever you can. How can you keep her within the confines of your backyard?

While your pet will benefit from your supervision and guidance, a barrier to keep her safely contained will work wonders in helping her stay on your property. This is because it will not only give her a visual reminder of where you’d like her to spend her time, but it can also prevent her from leaving this space even if she is motivated to do so. Many fence options can also block your pet’s view outside your backyard, which may remove a lot of temptation as well.  This will also help to highlight the fun things she can do within this space so she can stay content in the outdoor space you’ve provided for her. Your local trusted veterinarians Lewisville TX can offer additional suggestions.

Health Issues In Pugs

Pugs have their share of health problems brought about the shape of their heads. These adorable dogs are brachycephalic, which means their heads and nose are short.  This anatomical defect, although normal for the breed, can give rise to respiratory problems. The reduced skull length and their compressed faces cause soft tissues to obstruct the pug’s airways making it difficult for them to breathe. They are also prone to reverse sneezing when fluids and debris accumulate in their narrow air passages.

Pugs are also prone to a collapsed trachea. Affected pugs already have the defect when born. The defective cartilage in the trachea (windpipe) collapses which can cause breathing difficulties.

Another cause of breathing problems in pugs is stenotic nares. It occurs because of the narrow nasal passages, making it harder for a pug to breathe normally. This causes them to breathe through the mouth.

All these breathing issues make pugs less tolerant to heat and physical activity. If signs of respiratory difficulties persist, contact your vet Virginia Beach VA immediately.

Keeping your home fur-free

You have a furry friend in your life and your home shows it. How can you help keep your living space as fur-free as it can be?

It’s important to understand that your pet shares this space with you and this means that she will be shedding within it. It’s natural for her to do so, which means you will have to find ways to comfortably accept this. Be sure to feed your pet a healthy diet and to take the time to brush her fur regularly to foster a healthy coat. This will help minimize unnecessary shedding. You can also make sure to have some cleaning products on hand that are specifically made for homes with pets in them to remove shed fur in the most effective way you can. Dog Repellents

Did you know there is such thing as dog repellent? If your dog is marking his territory or just randomly marking in your home in places such as your carpet, hardwood floors, furniture legs, etc., then you should talk to your vet about using a dog repellent. Dog repellents act as a deterrent for your dogs. You can find a variety of sprays at your area pet store as well as online. When shopping around for a repellent make sure you get unscented if you have allergies to scents like perfumes. Just because it’s unscented to you doesn’t mean it’s not effective on your dog. You should also make sure the repellent is safe for all animals and people especially children. As another option, you could make your own by using ingredients like citrus, cayenne peppers, and vinegar. Consult with your vet Las Vegas, NV for additional suggestions.
