When a hamster recently gave birth, she became susceptible. Stressors can trigger her violent side that can endanger her offspring. The best way to help the mother hamster and her babies is to keep yourself and other people away. Still, provide them water and food but do not engage in her much because it might become a reason for her to get stressed. Some mother hamsters neglect, abandon, and even eat their babies when stressed. Indeed, you do not want any of these to happen to your new precious hamsters.
If you are expecting your hamster to give birth in a few
days, it is better to clean her cage before she gives birth. Cleaning is not
recommended once her babies are out. In addition to that, you should also remember
to hold the baby hamsters for less than 14 days. Control your excitement and
emotions because it might cause trouble. If it is necessary to move a baby
hamster, do not touch her directly. Use a spoon as a medium so you will not
transfer your scent to her.
If you have any concerns about your pet's health and/or
behavior, make an appointment with a
veterinary clinic Chesapeake, VA.
