Paper training is a popular training technique used to housebreak
puppies. To paper train your puppy, cordon off a puppy-proof area in
your home and cover the floor with newspaper. At first your puppy will
urinate and defecate wherever he is. Change the paper often. Remove a
sheet of paper or two at a time to restrict his toileting area so it is
closer to a door to the outside. Anticipate elimination by looking for
behavior such as turning around in circles, hunching up or squatting.
Shoo your puppy out the door when you see this behavior so he goes
outside. Soon your dog will go to the door when he needs to go outside.
Never punish your puppy if he has accidents. Pay closer attention and
