Does Your Dog Have Vision Problems?

An important indicator of sight issues in pet dogs is if you find him overly relying on his olfactory senses.  If one of a dog’s senses fails, his other senses will compensate quickly.  Dogs have really acute olfactory senses, so vision loss, whether a complete or partial loss, will not have a big negative effect on their everyday lives eventually.

But there are instances when a dog’s vision is suddenly lost, the animal might experience confusion and exhibit some behavioral issues.  But after an adjustment period and your help, your pet would eventually use his olfactory senses to help in navigation, compensating for the loss of sight.

One other indicator of possible vision issues in pet dogs would be eye irritation or pain.  There are painless eye issues that can still cause complete or partial blindness.  But then there are also eye issues that cause irritation or pain.  You have to watch out for indicators that something could be wrong with your dog’s eyesight.  Some of these are rubbing his eyes and face against objects or walls, pawing at his eyes, excessive blinking, or squinting.  Your veterinarian would be able to help in identifying the cause.  Then the proper measures can be undertaken to address the problem.

Any sign of illness exhibited by your pet should require a visit to your vet hospital Kerrville TX for proper medical attention. Schedule an appointment today!
