Does Cat Food Go Bad When Left Out?

Cats have different appetites for sure, and not all cats are used to a fixed feeding schedule. Some cats, especially if they are new to your family, may still be adjusting to a feeding routine. If this happens, as a pet owner, you may worry about food spoilage if your cat would not eat her food on time.

You will have to consider the length of time that has passed since you initially gave your cat her food. In most cases, if you feed her dry kibble, you can still wait for up to 10 to 12 hours before replacing it. Dry food does not spoil immediately compared to wet food.

The rule of thumb when it comes to leftover food is to make sure you remove all the leftover food and clean the bowl before putting new food in it. This is to avoid cross-contamination and food poisoning. Make sure to put small food portions in your cat's feeding bowl to avoid the possibility of having excess, uneaten food.
