French Bulldog Vs. Boston Terrier

You may have seen these two dog breeds very often. Why? Statistics show that the Boston Terrier and French Bulldog are famous dogs widely used as mascots and favored by celebrities. But, which is better between the two?

These breeds come with fascinating characteristics and qualities. The French Bulldog is known as “Frenchie,” and the Boston Terrier is dubbed as the “American gentleman.”

The American gentlemen are active pups that need regular mental and physical stimulation. They may be a snob at times, especially in the morning. But on certain occasions, you may also see them snuggling up on your couch.

You may leave the Boston Terriers with various activities to work on, including tricks, toys, and puzzles. You may also find time to play with them or rub their bellies to establish a lasting bond. These Terriers are smart and independent.

Cleaning A Kitty Litter Box

animal hospital Newmarket, ON

Daily scooping of your cat’s litter box is important.  But aside from that, regular thorough cleaning of your cat’s litter box in its entirety is also a must.

The ideal way to wash your kitty’s litter box would be to submerge the box then let it soak for several minutes under some hot water.  Do this once every week at least.  Cleaning chemicals or detergents are not necessary because the hot water should accomplish the task.  If there is any remaining “dirt” along the box’s bottom and interior sides, a small quantity of liquid dishwashing soap mixed in with the water might help loosen that, aside from refreshing your pet’s litter box without having to leave behind any toxic residue.

Try not to use cleaning products that contain bleach, ammonia, or other kinds of caustic components.  Should you wish to take the extra step, you may use a small quantity of vinegar or hydrogen peroxide mixed in with the water to get rid of smells or bacteria.

Persistent litter box issues should warrant an appointment with your animal hospital Newmarket, ON to make sure that your pet’s behavior is not caused by an underlying health issue.

Dog Behavior: Barking in Boxers

veterinarian Newmarket ON

If you own a Boxer then you’re probably already familiar with the ways in which your dog barks. Your vet may also tell you that Boxers and other dog breeds bark for a variety of reasons. Some dogs bark to warn of danger or scare off strangers while others simply bark to gain attention. Barking is not only different from breed to breed, but it can also be different within a breed depending on age and sex of the dog. Boxers that are trained to protect often have a tendency to bark excessively. However, Boxers that are simply trained to be a family pet may not bark as much. If you’re concerned with how much or how little your dog barks, give your vet a call. There may be nothing wrong with your pup or a change in barking may signal an underlying illness. Consult with your veterinarian Newmarket, ON for details.

Attention-Seeking Behaviors In Cats

Cats display various behaviors just to get the attention of their owners. If you spend regular time playing and interacting with your furball, you will be able to distinguish attention-seeking behaviors from those that indicate illness or anxiety.

Illness

When your cat meowing sounds alarming and distraught, it might be due to some health problems such as pain, hunger, thirst, and other issues. A visit to a veterinary clinic is highly recommended.

Attention-seeking behaviors

Cats also like to have some company even if they are less friendly than dogs. They will annoy you with their wailing and inviting you to play with him. Some cats also tend to meow louder if their owners appear to ignore them. While attention-seeking behaviors might seem cute, reinforcing them can lead to headaches down the road. A cat that is used to getting his way can develop undesirable habits that may become a challenge to get rid of.

Sudden changes in your pet’s behavior should warrant an appointment with your animal hospital Newmarket ON.

Canine Dementia

Canine dementia, also called cognitive dysfunction syndrome (CDS), is just one of the important effects brought about the brain’s aging process. Aging eventually leads to deterioration of the dog’s mental capabilities, which means the animal’s memory, understanding, and ability to learn, focus, and respond are greatly hindered. The condition is associated with a decrease in dopamine, which is a neurotransmitter. Affected dogs undergo changes in their physical appearance, behavior, sleep pattern, appetite, and in their daily routine. At the outset, these changes are often very subtle and go unnoticed by many pet owners. As your pet enters his golden years, you should keep a close eye on his health and behavior. If you notice any minor or major change, you should make an appointment with your animal hospital Newmarket, ON to rule out the possible presence of a health issue before these changes can be blamed on CDS.

Dog Leash Options

Your dog is a big part of your life, and you know that heading out for a walk is a big part of his day. This means that you want to make the most of your time out with your pet. What should you look for in a leash to help make this happen?

Dog leashes are designed to help keep your pet safe and close to you so you can keep an eye on him. The amount of distance that is appropriate to have between you and your pet will depend on your pet’s ability to follow instructions as well as the area you are spending time in. If you head to different places often, this may mean having a few leashes of different lengths on hand. Your pet’s leash shouldn’t be too heavy, and your pet should be comfortable while wearing it.For additional information, please contact your local Newmarket, ON veterinarian.
