Turtles and Eye Health

vet clinic Bowmanville, ON

Some turtles are prone to bacterial infections of the eyes, swollen eyelids, and even pink eye or conjunctivitis as some call it. It’s important to look at your turtle over each day. You don’t have to take him out and examine him inch for inch, but giving him a quick look as you feed him can help you get familiar with how your turtle looks and behaves. Anything that is different from his usual appearance of disposition should warrant a call to the vet. Eye illnesses can include a swollen eye that comes as the result of an infection or injury. If the turtle can’t open his eyes then he won’t be able to see to eat. Bacterial infections are the main cause and need treatment right away to prevent them from moving from the eye to the respiratory system. Talk to your vet clinic Bowmanville, ON to learn more.
