Injury to a Dog's Eye

If you own a dog of any age then you are probably familiar with how often they can come into the house from playing outside and sport a new scratch or some other kind of injury like an eye injury. Eye injuries can be common in dogs. If you suspect your dog has injured his eye then you should call your vet right away to schedule an exam. Sometimes an injury is just an irritation that may be caused by an eyelash, debris in the air hitting the eye, etc. Irritation or injury may also be caused by a scratch. Your dog may show eye scratch signs such as watery eyes, green or yellow eye discharge, squinting, excessive blinking, and an avoidance of bright lights. Small scratches may be handled over the phone with the vet recommending an eye flush. More serious scratches often need an in office visit. Consult with your veterinarian Chico, CA to learn more.
