A Chinchilla’s Diet

Did you know that chinchillas are herbivores meaning they eat plants? If you’re trying develop a routine meal plan for your chinchilla, stop by your vet and ask for tips from staff. They should be able to provide suggestions on foods your chinchilla may be interested in. For instance, in the wild, chinchillas enjoy a diet of seeds, roots, leaves, fruits, berries, bark, alfalfa and different grasses. Their diet is generally high in fiber in the wild and they will need the same as a pet. You may feed your chinchilla pellets and treats, but make sure that is not their full meal. Try to provide them some of the foods they would eat in the wild. It is not recommended that you feed your chinchilla pellet food that is made for other small pets like guinea pigs and hamsters. Follow instructions and suggestions from your recommended veterinarian Scottsdale, AZ and help keep your chinchilla healthy and happy.
