Deafness In Cats

Cats have a good sense of smell. Yes, they have good noses that can determine the kind of aroma that enters. Their noses also have unique components through which they can decode messages of objects or things. But what about the other senses of felines?

Understand that some felines are deaf. Yes, there is also deafness in the feline world. Some of them cannot hear in one ear or both. How is this possible? Some of the factors for this deadness are the following:

● Ear wax buildup

● Infections

● Trauma

● Presence of foreign objects

● Reaction to some drugs or medications

Note that certain types of deafness can be reversed and treated, but some cannot (i.e., congenital deafness). White felines commonly suffer from this condition (one in five white felines are congenitally deaf). Experts determined that the genes behind the color of the eyes influence the function of the ears. White cats with blue eyes are prone to this kind of deafness.
