Tips For Weathering The Storm With Your Pet

If an emergency situation happens, it will likely be a frenetic and chaotic event, triggering panic in your pet.  Safely secure small-sized pets like guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, birds, and reptiles in the proper cages or enclosures while the emergency is ongoing.  For a pet that is larger in size, like dogs and cats, do the following:

Keep your pet’s license securely attached.

In emergency situations, your pets must always have your contact details and their license with them.  Your pets could panic in adverse conditions, might wander off with no idea how to get back to you because of blocked routes, floods, or confusing scents.

Keep your pets under control.

Keeping your pets under control reduces the possibility of escape.  If going outdoors is needed, use your strongest available leash even if your yard has a fence.  An open or broken section could allow your pet to wander off without your knowledge.  If at all possible, keep them inside their crates as it helps for easier evacuation if necessary.

Make sure that your pet’s preventatives and vaccines are up to date. If you’re not sure, you can call your vets Murrieta CA for information.
