Yes. Rat poison is poison whether it’s eaten directly by the cat or
indirectly by a cat (i.e. a cat eats a poisoned rat). Poison should not
be used around animals of any type including dogs and cats. Most cats
appear to have better sense of smell and taste than dogs and thankfully
avoid it in almost all instances. Dogs, however, often show down on the
food before even realizing there is something wrong with it. The best
thing to do if you’re trying to kill mice or rats is to have a cat that
will chase and kill them. Do not use poison. Use traps or even the
little black boxes that only the mice can get into. If you think your
cat may have eaten poison, write down the active ingredients of the
poison if known and call the pet poison control hotline. Be prepared to
pay for this phone call first. You should also contact your vet Flat Rock, NC.
