Your cat will knead your lap even if it is painful to you. As a
kitten, she kneaded her mother to stimulate milk so in kneading you she
transfers this nurturing role to you. She will also knead you to mark
you as her own using scent found in glands in her feet. Thus the painful
kneading is all about showing love to you. Never punish or yell at your
cat while she is kneading you and don’t allow household member to do
that either. Trim your cat’s nails often to lessen the damage she can do
while kneading you. Don’t be afraid to slip a small pillow or lap
blanket in between her nails and your lap to prevent her from digging
in. Enjoy the ubiquitous purring that often accompanies kneading and
take time to cuddle with your cat. Learn more from your animal hospital
