Cleaning Your Dog's Eyes

Some dogs are prone to developing eye gunk in their eyes. This is especially true for small dogs like the Yorkie, Toy Poodle and Bichon Frise. You may notice that your dog’s eyes are weepy or watery quite a bit. You can check with your vet to make sure there is nothing serious going on (i.e. blocked tear duct). Most of the time it’s just common drainage from the eyes or tear ducts. If the wet is not wiped away it could dry and form crusty gook that could hurt the eyes or cause the dog to have difficulty opening his eyes. You can clean the area by using a warm wash cloth and gently dabbing at your dogs eyes in the morning to remove any sleepy or gunk. You can also use a vet approved eye cleaner. Dab some onto a cotton swap and gently wipe at the eyes. Click to talk to your animal hospital Portland, OR for more tips. Schedule an appointment today!
