If you find that your cow has scratched or injured his eye (big or small
injury), please call your vet. A scratched eye may be puffy or even swollen. Your
vet may recommend flushing the eye to see if that helps remove any debris that
may be causing the irritation especially if you’re not sure the eye is actually
scratched. Your vet may also need to examine your cow in person. An eye stain can be applied by our vet to reveal possible scratches.
Be warned that the stain will leave a green discharge in your cow’s eye and the
discharge may also exit through your cow’s nose. The result of the test will give
your vet an idea of how to treat the eye. Your local animal hospital Mt. Airy MD may prescribe an eye ointment and recommend you cover your cow’s
eye with a fly mask to protect it while healing.
